The family Chamaeleonidae is comprised of more than 200 highly specialized lizards with opposable digits that act like thumbs, independently moveable eyes, and extensible tongues. Chameleons (sometimes spelled chamaeleons) can be found in Africa, Madagascar, southern Europe, and across southern Asia as far as Sri Lanka.
