Leopard

Leopard – Panthera pardus. There are numerous subspecies of leopards but some subspecies will probably be grouped together after further review. The subtle differences between these subspecies reflect the terrain, climate and food availability in the regions in which they live.

Valid leopard subspecies include: African leopard (P. p. pardus), Indian leopard (P. p. fusca), Arabian leopard (P. p. nimr), Persian leopard (P. p. ciscaucasica), North Chinese leopard (P. p. japonensis), Amur leopard (P. p. orientalis), Indochinese leopard (P. p. delacouri), Javan leopard (P. p. melas), Sri Lankan leopard (P. p. kotiya), Anatolian leopard (P. p. tulliana) and Balochistan leopard (P. p. sindica).
